Sneak Peek: New Look Autumn/Winter 2012 collection
Press Day was at the New Look swanky Head Office in W1 where they had created a “Shoe Heaven”, a room full of their wonderful footwear collection as well as some amazing bags and other accessories.
Looks like this Autumn we will be walking on high architectural heels with cut outs, reliving the 80s in studded pixie boots and sporting the new wedges trainers…….cant wait.
The womenswear collection was separated into three main stories: “Spellbound” was a take on romantic Goth with elements of lace and velvet as well as shimmers of brocade in bronze and mulberry tones.
Leather is everywhere with an amazing Marant-esque dress with cutwork detail, waterfall fronted jackets ala Rick and a must get leather biker at just £49.99. Antiqued florals completed the look and appeared in suiting and chiffon blouses and shirts sitting alongside street-style stud work on the newest skirt shape – the skater.
“Get Carter” lived up to its 60s heritage channelling the formal elements of the era with dogstooth and houndstooth, sophisticated coats with leather or PU panels/sleeves (still wearing my PU sleeve crombie from last AW – my tip get in quick) and bracelet sleeve double breasted blazers The peplum is still going strong in shift dresses and pyjama prints added relaxed glamour in soft suits and blouses. Feeling a Julie Christie moment coming on.
“Rebel” was posh punk with frayed edge boucle jackets with matching hotpants in fuchsia all edged in leather. Oversize textural knits with flashes of neon and jackets, T’s and sweats emblazoned with embroidered skulls, sequin crucifixes and beaded iconography were bang on trend following the international catwalks.
There was also a denim wall which displayed the latest in dips and dyes, patterns and fits underlining why we continue to be obsessed with this more sturdy of staples.
One of the most exciting things was the use of technology at this show where on entrance we were handed a scanner and asked to record our loves by scanning all of the barcoded product – with the press hits “trending” on multiple screens across the show. There were also interactive video displays which came to life when you lifted an accessory and detailed a trend story and how to wear it.
